Fall Style Starts Today.

The temperatures are dropping and summer is long gone, but we don’t mind because the latest Fall styles are keeping us warm. To celebrate the season, we’re having a Fall sale with hot picks from stylin’ curators like Jeannie Mai, Molly Sims, and Shopafrolic. Check out a few of our faves below, and click here to see the entire sale.

Living in New York, us OpenSky-ers wear a lot of black clothing, but sometimes that get’s old fast. So we’re so excited to see that Jeannie Mai selected a silk top in an amazing shade of royal blue from local boutique Yumi Kim. Jeannie suggests pairing it with skinny jeans, and we couldn’t agree more.

Shopafrolic found the ultimate Fall shoe for their fans. They’re fashionable yet functional boots with an awesome wedge to give you a little extra height. Wear them with jeans or cords; you can’t go wrong. Can we call them hiker-chic?

Tote bags are a necessity for any person on-the-go. They’re great for grabbing everything you need for the day in an easy to carry way. Molly Sims discovered this snakeskin-embossed leather tote by Sorial for her run-and-go days. She uses the purple one, but any of these colors are fab for a Fall wardrobe.

We’re so excited about a foodie find from Andrew Zimmern, that we couldn’t wait to tell you about it. Being a chef is a lot like being a scientist. You have to know how ingredients will react with others to create the ultimate flavors. Chef Andrew Zimmern found a great way to be a Molecular Gastronimist (a fancy term for foodie scientist) in your own home. Check out the “My Molecular Cuisine Kit,” coming to OpenSky next week.

The kit comes with all of the tools you need to make creations like chocolate balsamic macaroons, puffed peanut chicken fries, and a deconstructed tiramisu. Plus, it’s easy with a cookbook with 28 step-by-step recipes. Here’s your chance to impress our friends with your culinary expertise. Make sure you’re following Andrew Zimmern on OpenSky to get the kit first.

BarCamp Nashville Recap

by Caitlin Heikkila October, 18 2011 Posted in News

If you were following our tweets over the weekend, you may have read that we sponsored BarCamp Nashville. What’s a BarCamp? It’s a free, technology focused “unconference” that’s equal parts networking, knowledge-building and fun. The event brings together the best minds and representation of the hottest companies in the internet, entrepreneurial, new media, and software industries, among others.

Because OpenSky has a second office in Nashville, we thought it would be a great opportunity to meet companies, entrepreneurs, and tech-savvy people in the area, and let them know that we’re a part of the community too! This year’s BarCamp was at Cadillac Ranch in Downtown Nashville, and was filled with interesting people, thoughtful info sessions, and even a mechanical bull. Take a look at some of our photos from the event.

Fight World Hunger with Alicia Silverstone

by Caitlin Heikkila October, 17 2011 Posted in News

We all know that actress Alicia Silverstone rocks the big screen, but did you know she’s also helping fight world hunger too? Alicia discovered Two Degrees Foods– the makers of a sweet and salty granola bar that gives back for every purchase. For each bar they sell, Two Degrees—in partnership with Valid Nutrition and Partners in Health—sends a nutrition pack to feed a hungry child in an impoverished country. And to make it even better, Two Degrees is minimizing their carbon footprint by manufacturing close to home.

At the OpenSky office, we can’t get enough of them! They’re all-natural, made up of quinoa, chia, sunflower seeds, millet, and dried fruit in three flavors, apple pecan, cherry almond, and chocolate peanut. I’m obsessing over the cherry almond, personally.

You can do your part and stop hunger with Alicia too. Each order of these yummy bars will feed nine hungry children. Our members have helped over 630 children so far! Get yours here, and make sure to follow Alicia for more of her amazing discoveries.

Move over Amazon, there’s a better way to shop and we all know it.

by John Caplan October, 13 2011 Posted in News

There was a time when Amazon was the go-to way to shop online.  It was safe.  Lots of stuff.  Fast shipping.  Cheap prices. We were all impressed.

But the excitement has worn thin with the endless flow of irrelevant computer-generated suggestions based on browsing habits, other customers “like me” and past purchases. It’s become obvious the experience is missing something important, real people with real expertise. The search engine doesn’t really know me.

At OpenSky, our mission is to give you a better way to shop that’s all about you.  We want you to design a shopping experience around your interests that surprises you everyday with something new, hand-picked for you by someone else.

We’re introducing you to 75 of the best people in food, health, style, and design to help you shop. Choose from the group to create your dream team of personal shoppers. Each time you do, you’re making a “connection” to someone who shares your passions and interests.  Together, in just 6 months, we’ve made more than 3 million of those connections on OpenSky. Yesterday alone we made 265,609 connections. 265,609 times you told someone you trust, surprise me with something great.  That’s over 11 thousand connections an hour. And with more than half a million members, that means everyday more and more people know what we know, that shopping is better when its personal.

Are you looking for a wok and a recipe to whip up stir fry? Amazon has 5,425 and counting for you to sort through. OpenSky has one. Chef Ming Tsai, host of East Meets West on PBS and owner of Boston’s famed Blue Ginger, picked it out and if you want to Wok like a rockstar you’ll learn about it — if that’s not your thing, you won’t. No more comparing product after product. No more headaches from the virtual dig for the perfect product. Just the best from someone that you choose to help you.

Someday soon people will say “remember when you had to go and search for stuff” just the way they say “remember before GPS when you had to stop at a gas station to get directions.”

Say goodbye to the impersonal catalog and design the way you shop. OpenSky is designed by the person who knows you best—you.
