Boo! It’s a Halloween Preview.

by Caitlin Heikkila October, 11 2011 Posted in News

There are only 20 days until Halloween, and we’re stocking up on candy and decor to celebrate. Luckily, our curators have been picking out some of their favorite Halloween finds for you to shop. From spooky decor to sweet treats, here’s a little preview of what they have in store.

Who would know how to carve a pumpkin better than cake constructor Buddy Valastro? He knows that if you want a scary jack-o-lantern, you have to have the right tools. He picked out this carving set. Follow Buddy to get it on OpenSky first.

The best part about Halloween? The candy, obviously. We can’t wait to snack on Whitney Miller’s Hammond’s Gourmet Halloween Candy Bundle. It’s full of chocolate and caramel and it’s irresistible. Follow Whitney to get yours.

If you’re playing Halloween Hostess this year, make sure to pick up these Artland Radiance Flutes handpicked by Preston Bailey. They’re elegant, but still have a gothic touch. Perfect for a masquerade! Start following Preston on OpenSky to add some festive flare to your celebration.

There’s plenty more Halloween picks coming your way. Join OpenSky now to get in on these finds.

Just one of our handpicked finds to support Breast Cancer Awareness, from guru Gabby Bernstein

October is National Breast Cancer Awareness Month, and we would love for you to join us in supporting the cause. Starting today, October 7, through October 9th, we’re donating $5 for every purchase made to Cancer Schmancer, a non-profit founded by actress and cancer survivor Fran Drescher that is dedicated to saving women’s lives through prevention and early detection of cancer.

In addition to our support of Cancer Schmancer, many of our curators have discovered products that benefit a variety of different organizations like Pink Bright, Breast Cancer Charities of America, American Cancer Society, and Susan G. Komen for the Cure.

Check out Holly Robinson Peete‘s Kuponya Bracelet from the Leakey Collection. Ten percent of all sales will be donated to women’s health issues in Kenya as well as to women across the globe through the Breast Cancer Research Fund, or the Rosena Sammi Sitara bracelet, picked out by Donna D’Cruz, 30 percent of all sales will be donated to the American Cancer Society.

OpenSky Goes Southern with Hugh Acheson

by Caitlin Heikkila October, 6 2011 Posted in Our Curators

OpenSky-ers Andrew, Mark, and Bernardo got to get up close and personal with super-chef Hugh Acheson at his restaurant Empire State South in Atlanta, Georgia. Hugh gave the team the grand tour of the space, including a beautiful courtyard complete with outdoor seating and a bocce court.

“Hugh was really accommodating and excited to share his favorite things and stories with his fans on OpenSky. You can tell that he’s really passionate about food,” Andrew said, also noting that Hugh preferred to wear his own clothing over his chef’s jacket, as it better fit his personal style.

So what’s Hugh have in store? He’s all about functional kitchen tools, American-produced foods, influential cookbooks, and Southern-inspired-anything! If you’re looking forward to Hugh Acheson’s first offer as much as we are, follow him on OpenSky now.

And as always, if you aren’t an OpenSky member yet, join now to get in on these foodie finds.
