Are you traveling this Labor Day weekend? No matter where you’re planning your weekend getaway, check out these three must-have OpenSky offers to make your time off extra-fabulous.

1. Amy Kathryn Vegan Studded Duffel Bag curated by EcoStiletto

This Labor Day, EcoStiletto is stuffing all of their beach essentials into this rocker-meets-girly girl creation from Amy Kathryn. It’s a beautiful and eco mashup of style—edgy studded faux-leather insets and floral-print organic cotton canvas. Plus, it will fit all of your beach clothes, towel, sunscreen, iPod, magazines for beach reading, and more. Follow Eco-Stiletto on OpenSky to get yours.

2. Seneca Rising “Abigail” Dress handpicked by Kristin Cavallari

This dress is the perfect wardrobe essential for the end of summer. Kristin envisions keeping it casual and simple by pairing this dress with strappy flat sandals and my favorite shades for a relaxing end-of-the-season barbeque. Or style it with a boyfriend blazer and sky-high pumps for a night out with your girlfriends. From sunny days to cool nights, this dress will be a closet staple. Get yours by following Kristin Cavallari on OpenSky.

3. Deluxe Vodka Chiller Set With Shot Glasses selected by Zane Lamprey

For many of us, Labor Day is filled with parties to celebrate the end of summer. When Zane Lamprey hosts a party, he makes sure his vodka is chilled so guests can shake up their own martinis or mix their own cocktails. To make it even more convenient, he uses this chiller set, with six chilled vodka shots all ready to go. To add this set to your bar, follow Zane Lamprey on OpenSky.

At OpenSky, our curators know the secrets to making any meal a little tastier. And luckily for us (and for you!), they’ve selected some crave-worthy butters, mustards and jams to keep our taste buds satisfied.

Tina Haupert of Carrots ‘N’ Cake can’t get enough of Justin’s peanut and almond butters. One of her favorites is honey peanut butter (it’s 93% organic!) on top of some cinnamon raisin toast and sliced bananas. It makes her feel like a kid again, and she loves supporting a brand that’s about sustainability and minimizing its carbon footprint.

Model Carolyn Murphy also selected some nut butters that she can’t live without, from Tierra Farm. She discovered these rich and creamy butters at her local farmers market, and now the almond butter is her go-to comfort food. Carolyn’s favorite way to eat the nut butters is on gluten-free rice crackers. She loads up each cracker with nut butter, chutney and some gourmet cheese.

You can pair Carolyn‘s Tierra Farm nut butter with another one of her faves– jams from INNA Jam. The three pack includes three unique flavors, jalapeno, kiwi, and apricot. Try the apricot on a sandwich (or just a spoon as Carolyn prefers), kiwi on oatmeal, and jalapeno with cheese. If you buy the jams, Carolyn will even send you her apricot tart recipe.

More of a mustard fan? Dorie Greenspan likes Clovis Mustard, a product she discovered in France. Dorie uses them when she’s making vinaigrettes, marinades, breadcrumb toppings, and dips. Try mixing a little mustard with mayo – it’s great with popcorn shrimp or calamari!

Shop for a Cause: Plates with Purpose™

by Caitlin Heikkila August, 23 2011 Posted in News

Healthy Comfort Food Chef and Author Devin Alexander advises her fans to eat meals on a smaller plate to make a meal seem larger and heartier, but sometimes the plates she uses hold an even greater purpose. Available today on OpenSky, these gorgeous square dishes from Plates with Purpose are the perfect dining accessory for a cause.

Riverside Design Group created Plates With Purpose™, a series of custom glass plates designed to raise awareness of the missions of several non-profit groups like Habitat for Humanity of Greater Pittsburgh and FORCE (Facing Our Risk of Cancer Empowered). Riverside donates 15% of the Plates With Purpose™ sales to these vital organizations who make a difference in our communities.

Each design coordinates with a different cause, so you can buy for the causes you care about most. For example, the wheat design benefits hungry children and families, and the Sunflower benefits women in recovery from addiction.

Because September is Ovarian Cancer Awareness Month, the Perennial Hope™ crocus plate has special significance, as it benefits FORCE, an organization that provides valuable support to those at high hereditary risk of getting breast and ovarian cancer. The beautifully designed crocus plate makes a great gift for anyone wants to support this organization’s mission.

Buy one for a friend, or yourself! Ready to shop for a cause? Join OpenSky and follow Devin Alexander to get your own plate with a purpose.

Bake Better with Dorie Greenspan’s Baking Essentials

by Caitlin Heikkila August, 17 2011 Posted in News

Baking extraordinaire and OpenSky curator Dorie Greenspan finally overcame her fear of rolling out pie dough. To gain the confidence to create delicious tarts and pies, she needed the right tools. Enter one of Dorie’s baking essentials– The Matfer Bourgeot Nylon Rolling Pin on sale now. Made in France, the pin is easy to control, and heavy enough to roll out the prettiest pie crusts.

“They’re the best quality, they do their job super well and they remind me of some sleek racing machine (and who doesn’t love sleek?),” Dorie said. Which must be why she owns three of them!

Once you have the tools, you’re going to need some inspiration. Keep an eye out for Dorie’s book (coming soon to OpenSky), “Around My French Table,” which won the James Beard Award for Cookbook of the Year. In this book of over 300 recipes, Dorie explores what French people really eat at home and gives practical advice on how to whip up variations of classic dishes like Pot-au-Feu.
