Georgia Pellegrini: Foodie Then and Now

by Caitlin Heikkila November, 21 2011 Posted in Our Curators

Georgia Pellegrini was born into a culinary lifestyle. As a kindergartener, she was taken care of by an Italian woman, who cooked often, while Georgia watched from underneath the table. She vividly remembers smelling the food from underneath the table, and devouring pastina (a pasta porridge) and broccoli with cheese.

The food from Georgia’s childhood transformed her into the foodie she is today.

“My cooking style is the kind of food you would find in your grandma’s kitchen. It’s seasonal, nourishing, and simple. I want food where the pure ingredients speak for themselves,” Georgia said.

This Thanksgiving, she’s whipping up a cranberry relish to bring to her relatives’ house in Texas. They’ll be serving some good Southern-style food, but Georgia wanted to bring something more New England for some balance.

From Thanksgiving dinner to her OpenSky shop, Georgia’s always bringing something one-of-a-kind to her friends and followers.

“OpenSky is about finding unique, cool and interesting things. I love that I can offer my finds to my followers. I want to bring beautiful, artisan products to OpenSky and introduce them to the small companies who make them,” Georgia said.

For the Chic Mom: Petit Tresor

by Caitlin Heikkila November, 15 2011 Posted in Our Curators

Nina Takesh and Samantha Winch met in the second grade and have been friends ever since. Their life paths have moved together nicely; both married, had children, got divorced, and now own a children’s shop together in LA called Petit Tresor. Their elegant styles and love for world travel make them great business partners, and soon they will be celebrating their shop’s 10 year anniversary.

“In 10 years at Petit Tresor, we’ve learned that you really have to be passionate about what you to. It takes up all of your energy, so it’s important to really love it,” Nina said.

If you’ve never been inside the store, you should know it’s much like a treasure box, filled with beautiful finds, fine clothing, handmade furniture, accessories, toys, all with a luxurious and classic taste. The shop is frequented by celeb moms like Angelina Jolie, Gwen Stephanie, and Lisa-Marie Presley.

“We like Jennifer Lopez’s aesthetic; it’s very much in line with ours. It’s very French, a mix of old and new, whimsical but still simple, and with no theme, which we try to veer away from. We helped her design her nursery,” they said.

Nina and Samantha want to take their worldly, classic style to their OpenSky shop, where they will offer their fans hard to find, coveted items, as well as designer nursery picks.

“We want to share with our followers the new, hot items, but also the items we couldn’t live with out as mothers. We want to help and share our depth of knowledge with our shoppers,” Nina said.

Dorie Greenspan Gives us the Low-Down on her Cooking Essentials.

by Caitlin Heikkila November, 4 2011 Posted in Our Curators

Attention foodies, Dorie Greenspan is planning her upcoming OpenSky finds, and she’s so excited to share them with you. We got the chance to hang out with Dorie yesterday; she showed the team the products that she’s most enthusiastic about– including lots of practical kitchen tools, but also some beautiful tabletop accessories.

Dorie raved about her most recent offer, the De Buyer Mineral B Element Pans. “A great recipe deserves a great pan,” she said. Check out her recipe for Bistrot Paul Bert Pepper Steak (and try not to drool), the steak she recommends cooking up in one of these pans.

We’re thrilled to have Dorie as a part of the OpenSky family; just follow her to see why!

An Afternoon with Jacques Torres.

Our sweet teeth are aching. We’re thrilled to have Jacques Torres as a curator on OpenSky, and we can’t wait for his first delicious offer to go live. The OpenSky team visited his store in downtown Manhattan yesterday to take photos and video for his holiday finds, and got the chance to see Mr. Chocolate in action. Jacques whipped up a little house made of chocolate like it was nothing, then dazzled us with his bite-size chocolate creating skills.

The offer we’re thinking about right now? Jacques’ infamous hot chocolate with a chocolatière and glass mugs. We know what we’re gifting this holiday season. Follow Jaques Torres on OpenSky to get a taste of his upcoming treats.
