Free shipping for you!

by Caitlin Heikkila November, 25 2011 Posted in News

Good morning OpenSky-ers. We hope you had a wonderful Thanksgiving yesterday with stuffing, turkey, and pumpkin pie galore. To show our thanks, we’re giving you free shipping until Monday, November 28th. That means free shipping on EVERYTHING– whether you’re shopping for foie gras, gold hoop earrings, or protein powder.

Thanks for being supportive of us through our first Thanksgiving, and have a very productive Black Friday!

We’re new and improved for the holidays.

After we’ve all grazed on turkey, mashed potatoes, and pumpkin pie tomorrow, we will have one thing in mind. No, not sleep. Not football either. SHOPPING. Friday is the biggest shopping day of the year, and to prepare, we’ve been working hard to make improvements to give you the best OpenSky shopping experience possible.

So what do we have in store? First, faster shipping options. For example, let’s say you’re buying an Urban Posh Bangle picked out by Holly Robinson Peete for your stylish sister and you need it by December 20th. You’ll be able to choose expedited shipping if you procrastinated (like many of us do).

You probably want that bangle gift wrapped with a gift message too, right? We’ll also have that option on many of our items for you.

Maybe when you’re shopping for your stylish sister you see the perfect gift for your foodie Dad on Michael Ruhlman‘s page, the Brooklyn Cured Sausage Sample Pack. Yum. You also know your Dad would love some other cooking tools, but which ones? No worries. Ruhlman picked out a collection called “Dalton Ruhlman Cooking Essentials” to help you find what you need. You add the Rustic Meat Mallet to your cart and you’re ready to go!

Some of our curators, like Ruhlman, will have special collections so you can see which products go best together. We’ve also created gift guides to match the interests of everyone on your list, so no more guessing.

“We’ve added a new, updated look that will offer more options for gifting– just in time for the holidays,” said OpenSky Project Manager Melissa Perri said.

Holiday shopping just got easier. Keep an eye out for these updates coming soon.

Beware of Shoe Envy, Louboutin Giveaway Winner Announced

by Caitlin Heikkila November, 22 2011 Posted in News

Erica, left, the winner of our Louboutin giveaway, with her friend McKenzie, who invited her to join OpenSky.

You craved them. You prayed for them. You wished, hoped, and invited everyone you know to join OpenSky just to get your hands on them. And for Erica Cage, her wish came true. Erica won our Christian Louboutin giveaway– SIX pairs of Louboutin shoes added to her closet.

“I didn’t believe it when I saw it,” Erica said. “I’ve never owned a pair of Louboutins before, and this was the last thing I expected.”

Erica was one of many who entered to win the shoes. If you joined OpenSky during the month of October, you were entered to win the to-die-for giveaway. For every friend you invited to join, you got another chance to win

Erica showed her generosity when she offered one pair to her friend McKenzie Hurst, who had invited Erica to join. We also gave McKenzie a $100 OpenSky credit for her part in the giveaway.

“I never would have won them if McKenzie didn’t send me the link to sign up,” Erica said. “A friend of McKenzie’s got us into it.” Now, both Erica and McKenzie claim they are “shopaholics,” following their favorite people on OpenSky, like Tom Colicchio, Alicia Silverstone, and Kelly Bensimon.

So what are they going to do when they get their shoes?

“We’re going to throw a party, just so we can wear them!” McKenzie said. “Now we just have to get some nice outfits to go with our nice shoes.”

Georgia Pellegrini: Foodie Then and Now

by Caitlin Heikkila November, 21 2011 Posted in Our Curators

Georgia Pellegrini was born into a culinary lifestyle. As a kindergartener, she was taken care of by an Italian woman, who cooked often, while Georgia watched from underneath the table. She vividly remembers smelling the food from underneath the table, and devouring pastina (a pasta porridge) and broccoli with cheese.

The food from Georgia’s childhood transformed her into the foodie she is today.

“My cooking style is the kind of food you would find in your grandma’s kitchen. It’s seasonal, nourishing, and simple. I want food where the pure ingredients speak for themselves,” Georgia said.

This Thanksgiving, she’s whipping up a cranberry relish to bring to her relatives’ house in Texas. They’ll be serving some good Southern-style food, but Georgia wanted to bring something more New England for some balance.

From Thanksgiving dinner to her OpenSky shop, Georgia’s always bringing something one-of-a-kind to her friends and followers.

“OpenSky is about finding unique, cool and interesting things. I love that I can offer my finds to my followers. I want to bring beautiful, artisan products to OpenSky and introduce them to the small companies who make them,” Georgia said.
